I'm so thankful you mentioned not editing as you write. After hours of editing out adverbs and adjectives from my manuscript and still not finished, I've been thinking, "I will never write another adverb or adjective as I write a first draft!" because then I wouldn't have to edit them out. But that wouldn't be good if it hinders the creation process. Do you think if I stop using them in everyday conversation, they might infiltrate my creative writing less?

I think that trying to edit your every day speech would be far more exhausting than just being yourself! When you're first drafting, take ALL the filters off. Just write. I have even written words that I know would never fly in Christian fiction in my first draft because a character said them and I knew I could clean up their potty mouths later. ;-). I have met far too many people who never finish that first draft because they were far too busy trying to make it perfect. Even my second drafts are really plumped up first drafts. I don't start editing until the third pass, at least. Free yourself and just write. :-)
